Fireworks Illegal in New Jersey

Under NJSA 21:3-2, it is illegal to sell, possess or use fireworks including; firecrackers, torpedoes, sky rockets, roman candles, bombs, sparklers, smoke bombs, champagne poppers, fun snaps, and other similar fireworks.

The only fireworks that are legal for sale in New Jersey are paper and plastic caps.  Death and serious injury can result from the use of any other type of fireworks. In 2005, 21 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms from the illegal use of fireworks in New Jersey. Almost half of those injuries occurred to children. Officers will be strictly enforcing state and local law.

The illegal use of fireworks carries fines of up to $500 and/or imprisonment of up to 30 days. Any person found guilty of possessing fireworks, including sparklers, with the intention of selling them, can be fined up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 18 months.

The Mount Laurel Police Department wishes all a safe and happy summer.
